Week 9

The summary of useful weblinks is stored on the summary page

We will start with a brief further discussion of Ising models to say that the program in a field will not be used this year. The first question of Targil 5 will be revised accordingly. If anyone already did it with the field prgram I will also accept it that way.

IMPORTANT for tx users!!! Please note that the name staff is no longer being used for tx - its tx only. Also soon one can no longer run codes on tx, if for some reason you do not want to use phelafel, you can request an account on aluf, a computer center machine that has pgplot. MATLAB, MATHEMATICA etc and the home directory from tx. No change that I am aware of on t2 - pgplot has now been installed there.

Programs for today are in the tar file you downloaded last week. We will discuss percolation models with reference to Chapter 13 of Gould and Tobochnik (2nd edition) and Chapter 12 of Gould and Tobochnik (1st edition).

We will also discuss the fractal dimension of percolation clusters.

The new topic that will be discussed next week is Series Expansions . This is a particular type of exact enumeration method, and it will be applied to percolation as the sample problem. Some years we start it this week if time remains. This year I prefer to fit in some preliminary project presentations.
