The Computational Condensed Matter/Material Science community is still very small, especially in Israel. To give our students opportunity to hear about advances, some of us attempted to participate in Mbone multicasts in January 1996. These were sent by the Euro-Seminar on Condensed Matter Physics from Dieter Herrmann's group in Heidelberg.
Contact was made, transmissions in both directions were received, but contact was not of a quality that was sufficient for really learning anything.
I hope that with the new upgraded IGMP support we will be able to listen to these and similar events regularly and also transmit seminars from Israel.
I would like to join an initiative to develop access via Mbone, or another suitable internet based technology, for Israeli researchers and students to view and participate interactively in research seminars or discussions between universities in Israel as well as from the USA, Europe and even Asia and Australia.
